Proximity Locks

05/13/2008

While we haven't posted updates to this site recently, there's been a lot going on at the lake. Water levels are rising (along with outside temperatures) and all other indications are that it's going to be a great summer.

One recent upgrade at the marina is the installation of proximity locks on the front and back gates. Proximity locks will be installed for the bathrooms shortly. Proximity cards to unlock the gates will be issued to all current slip customers. While current keys still work, they will be completely phased out in June. More details on how to exchange your key for a new proximity card will be posted on this site. Information on when and how to exchange keys as well as how to operate the locks will also be available in the marina store shortly.

We feel confident that this upgrade will provide greater convenience and enhanced security. Please let us know if you have any questions as we make the transition.

One other note is that both walkways are attached and operational. We didn't provide that update when the event occurred (quite some time ago).

Thanks,

Staff @ Dam Site Marina

Update

01/25/2008

We have experienced the loss of a lower unit on the crane. Parts have been ordered. Once our equipment is operational we will resume installing the walkways.

Water was hooked up for all docks, however, this news was not posted here at that time.

Power available for all dock houses

01/05/2008

All dock houses now have electricity. We're working on hooking up water. We also expect walkways to be attatched shortly. Updates will be posted as progress is made.

"F Dock" Successfully Moved

01/03/2008

All dock houses needing to be moved have been successfully positioned in their new location. Electric will be hooked up for F dock as soon as possible.

Electric

12/19/2007

The electric for all docks except F dock is live. Weather permitting, we are planning to move F dock starting the 26th or 27th. Electric for F dock will be hooked up shortly after it is moved.

We would again like to express thanks for your patience as we have worked to complete this task. We are excited to have the move almost completed and also look forward to further improvements. Thanks,

staff @ Dam Site Resort

Weather

12/18/2007

There has been too much wind forecast to move F dock this week. The dock is scheduled to be moved the 26th. We anticipate electric being live by December 19th for the docks that have already been moved (all but F).

Moving and Electric

We are targeting Monday or Tuesday to move F dock. As of Wednesday the winds are forecast to be 6 MPH at 11:00 AM which is at the edge of our window.

Since last Friday we have prepped the walkway from the new C dock to the new D (formerly F) dock. We were trying to get to 150 feet to give the larger boats 1 ½ times their length to get in and out. The final walkway looks like 156 feet. We may slightly open the waterway end to give a little more room.

The store, A, B and C docks will very likely light up early this coming week. The cable is pulled, the panels are hooked up and we are waiting for Sierra Electric Coop to hang the transformer and energize the shore panel.

Update

12/12/2007

The Weather forecast for this week does not look good. We were originally looking at Friday as a possibility but as of Sunday night, winds are forecast. Rain poses a problem because there are frequently microbursts associated with it. We will continue to monitor and move at the earliest possible moment. In the interim we will work on establishing the two walkways to shore and utilities to the new A, B and C docks.

We have changed the water line to a two inch line from the shore that will continue past the store out to the dock houses. That should provide better pressure to all of the docks. New winches have arrived to secure the perimeter of the marina. They are five ton winches replacing some of the two and a half ton winches.

If you have moving questions please call Nadine at 575 744-5567. We have had a request for our numbers and are glad to give them out but understand that we are often unavailable because of the work we are doing. Alan is sometimes available at 575 740-8025 and Neal is at 575 740-8466. These are cell numbers and frequently go unanswered when we are diving which is most days right now. Cell coverage is spotty on the bank near the marina. The best way to hear from us is to leave a message at Marina Del Sur at 575 744-5567. For billing questions please call Nadine or Theresa.

B & C (formerly) Docks Moved

12/06/2007

Winter storms have been striking throughout New Mexico for the past several weeks. Elephant Butte has not been an exception to the recent weather, however, in the brief periods of relative calm between storms, marina workers have worked feverishly to move (and solidly secure!) the remaining dock houses. The former B & C docks have been relocated, leaving F dock as the only dock house left to be moved.

Wind has been forecast for the rest of the week. Moving of the final dock house (F dock) will resume as soon as weather allows (tentatively early next week).

Moving Update

11/27/2007

The D and E docks are now moved over to the store and the next two days (November 27 and 28) will see the rest of the anchoring for those two docks.

Dam Site Marina moveA storm is forecast for Thursday and Friday so next week, weather permitting, B/C dock will be moved over. If the weather is good through that week and there are no other obstacles F dock may follow later in the week.

There are three courtesy shuttles at the slips. One is on the walkway at the end of the bridge by the shore, one is on B/C dock and one is on F dock. Please try to leave a boat at each location. If you are alone please call the store for help. There is also a courtesy shuttle at the courtesy dock and on the D & E slips.

Neal and Alan are on the slips and frequently under water so if you have questions please call Nadine at 575 744-5567. Nadine works the weekends also so feel free to call then. She is off on Wednesday and Thursday.

Forecasted Wind

11/16/2007

Due to forecasted wind, moving the docks has been delayed. Moving will resume as soon as weather permits.

We would also like to ask slip customers to exercise caution while walking on the docks. As the marina is being moved, various structural elements may be exposed, presenting a possible hazard.

As mentioned below, if the walkway to the marina is not currently in place, a shuttle boat will be available to transport customers to and from the marina.

Thank you for your understanding.

Moving

11/09/2007

The moving process officially started according to the updated schedule of November 5th. While the actual docks have not been moved yet, the task of installing / moving utilities and configuring the underwater anchoring system is underway. The unseen tasks are actually the core of the process and once completed, will allow the physical relocation of the docks.

Shuttle boats are available to provide access to slips. Services such as water & storage tank pump-out are available at Marina Del Sur. We would like to be as accommodating as possible during the transition period. If you have needs that we can reasonably meet, please don't hesitate to let us know.

We express our appreciation for the support and feedback received and are eager to have the facility situated in its improved location. We are also excited for new services currently in the planning stage (such as WIFI). We'll provide updates as soon as more information is available.

Updated moving date

10/23/2007

Like many of you, we are anxious to move the marina (the water is cold and only getting colder to work in), however, we're still waiting for a required permit to re-hookup the electrics. We do not want to move until it is certain that electricity will be immediately available for slip customers upon arrival at the new location.

Because of this delay, the projected move date (originally set for the week of Oct. 29th) has been moved to the week of November 5th. We appreciate your understanding as we work with the required laws to move utilities to their new location.

Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to call or use the e-mail address located at the bottom of this page.

Water issues

We would like to provide an update to current Dam Site customers about the current water issues. Water to Dam Site marina was shut off by the Bureau Of Reclamation as a result of work being done on a water line by the Bureau of Reclamation.

Marina owners were assured as recent as October 8th that water to the facilities would be uninterrupted. The discovery that water to the Dam Site marina was shut off came completely unexpected and marina owners were immediately in contact with State Park officials to determine how to resolve the issue.

We regret the inconvenience this has presented, however, would like to state that the cause was completely beyond our control. We are actively seeking out a resolution to the problem, but again remind slip-customers that our ability to handle the problem is limited as it has occurred at a location owned and directed by the Bureau of Reclamation and not by the Dam Site marina.

Relocating of the marina

Because moving a complex structure such as the Dam Site marina requires utilities to be disconnected for a variable amount of time, it was concluded that the date for moving the marina would be extended to allow slip-users as long a season as possible.

The marina is expected to be relocated the end of October. Staff will work as efficiently as possible to restore the marina to being fully operational. Slip users should plan their schedules to allow 3 weeks for the operation to complete.

Questions & concerns

An e-mail address has been specially setup to answer questions slip-customers may have. Additionally, information will be posted to this page (www.thedamsite.com/news.php) as more information is obtained.
